PROCESS

As part of the six-member committee you have to first select one famous Hispanic personality from each of the following categories - politics, sports, literature, movies, music, and art.

  1. You should decide as a committee, which member is going to research which category.

  2. Then each member should begin by reviewing the websites in the resources page. Look at all the sites. There are some sites which have a list of famous Hispanics from all the categories and then there are some specific to each category.

  3. Once you have selected your famous person, you should use the information from the resources to write a short biography of the person and his/her accomplishments. Make sure that important events and/or famous works are listed. You should also get images of the person and of important events and occasions about his/her achievements.

  4. Your information will be published in two formats: a) In a wiki and b) In a poster. As a committee, you are all responsible for the quality and clarity of the information published.

          1. You will be publishing the information that you have gathered in a wiki. The wiki is divided into the following eight sections.

              1. The first section will be an introduction, where your group will give us an introduction about Hispanic Americans.

              2. The next six sections are for each category that is researched. In these sections you will collaborate with other committees. For example, those who are researching musicians will work with members of the other committees in your class who are working on the same category.

              3. The last section of the wiki is a conclusion page. You will get back with you group and jointly write a summary about your thoughts on the contributions that Hispanics have made to society.

          1. The second format is a poster. Your committee will create a poster as a group, which will include all the famous Hispanics that all of you researched . These will be displayed in the main lobby of the school during Hispanic Heritage month. Create colorful collages which highlight information about the life and achievements of the people you researched.

  5. Finally, you are going to do a group presentation in Spanish about the people you have researched. The presentation should be between 10-15 minutes. In order to engage the class, you may dress up like the famous person and role-play. You may play movie clips or music or show any other information about the person you researched. At the end of your presentation, your classmates will have the opportunity to ask you questions about the people you researched.
