EDUCATIONAL PHILOSOPHY

A high school education is critical in terms of an individual's ability to maximize his or her potential. I've been witness to a lot of friends, neighbors and children who, although they may possess a certain amount of talent, drive and intelligence, take a back seat in life simply because they don't have the necessary tools to develop their innate abilities. High school is the place where children are given those tools that lead to self-efficacy and self-awareness.

The ability to think critically, write with authority and communicate effectively is nurtured within the classroom environment. Our state standards address these needs and use them as a basis for our public school curricula. Through this curricula we as educators are assisting these children in learning how to think for themselves, problem solve and understand their own capabilities. We teach through this curriculum to deveop certain habits of mind that will sustain the life-long learner. Qualities of mind including perseverence, thinking flexibly and metacognition to name a few are valuable assets to the individual, whether his drive is to succeed in business or simply raise a family and get along with his wife and children.

In short, school is a place where habits of mind are set and nurtured to encourage children to believe in themselves and have the confidence to interact dynamically with the world around them.
