French artist Henri Matisse was born in 1869 and lived until 1954. Matisse was known as one the 20th century's greatest artists. He has been noted for his use of color and pattern, and the simplification of forms in his paintings, as is seen in the painting of the La Musique. He created works of art in many styles over his lifetime, all of them filled with beauty, harmony and peace. Henri was known as a fauvist, a name which came from the term "Wild Beast" because of the use of the bright and bold colors in his paintings.
