The cultural diversity of the East End is a result of the unique geographic features of the area. Carved by a receding glacier centuries ago, the East End of Long Island is comprised of miles of navigable shoreline, rich, fertile soil and boundless sources of fresh water. These geographic features have helped sustain a myriad of peoples from the original inhabitants, the Shinnecock Nation, through the early European immigration into our present day culturally diverse society.
Those same geographic features which sustain us lured people to the East End because of its sheer beauty. Miles of beautiful beaches inspired generations of artist and lured an array of writers to the tranquil beauty of our shores. Similarly, the rich and the famous have been attracted to the rural, raw and inspiring beauty of the east end. With each succeeding generation, the desire of people to make this “Good Ground” their home has threatened to destroy the very things that sustain……We hope to capture these changing ways, providing a glimpse at the things that have made this area unique…. To provide a venue to preserve for posterity the vanishing “ways of life”…… To provide a forum to share experiences and images of the East End….. And, above all, to provide a place to learn.
